On August 7th, 2018, the premiere of one of the biggest Hollywood films in recent years was held at the TCL Chinese Theatre, in Hollywood.
Starring MIchelle Yeoh Choo Kheng (who began acting in the 1980s), and Constance Wu (who had been acting since high school.
Henry Golding – the meal lead – had never done a day’s acting in the past… aside from a small Subway spondored firm called Fresh Friendships, in which he and his now-wife Liv Lo created and ate each other’s Subs. A bit of a strange start if you ask me!
On the night of the movie premiere though, he gained a reputation incredibly fast. The casting for his character had been spread wide across the Asian community. The fact that the dream role went to a non-actor who was Malaysian/British quickly gained a lot of attention.
Just two years back, Henry was not sure where he was heading. “I’ve thought back a lot and it was a time when I was at a kind of crossroads,” he says now. “I wasn’t sure if I wanted to continue being a presenter.” One thing is for sure – life definitely looks pretty different now!
