An Encouraging Word: Choice

If there was ever an encouraging word of comfort, an inspiring word with purpose, that word is choice. No matter what you do for a living, whether you’re married or single, you can steer your life in any direction you choose. In our land of plenty: plenty to do, plenty of work, and plenty of stress, it’s hard to believe. Or is it? Try these ideas and apply the power of choice to your own life.

Choose to be Reflective

Being reflective brings inner peace. A private opportunity with “self” to “think” on things. A chance to ask and gently answer, “How am I doing?” “Where am I going… and why?” In a world filled with noise and distraction, make the time to go inside. Go deeper. When you begin or end your day with reflection, you’ll uncover areas which require change and countless things for which to be grateful.

Choose to be Single-Minded

While others live to multitask, don’t you. Don’t accept multitudes of stuff clogging up your life. Cast away thoughts of “That’s the way it is.” You have the right to decline. You have the right to delete. You have the right to decide. Be single-minded as much as possible, whenever possible. There is power in focus. When you do everything, you master nothing. It’s better to do a few things well, than everything average. Master something, whenever you can, as much as you can. Others may live to multitask, but not you. Be single-minded. It will show up in your smile, your laugh, and your glow!

Choose to be Authentic

Here’s another encouraging word: authenticity. Give yourself permission to be who you want to be and do what you want to do. No one can grant it but you. You get to choose. Not your mom, husband, children, or friends. Although their opinions hold value, you are the deciding factor. Your choice is the golden ticket. You hold the key to every decision. Not happy with the career you’ve chosen? You can change it. Not comfortable with sacrificing your happiness for the happiness of others? You don’t have to. Invite happiness in by being yourself.

What would happen if you did what made you happy? You would move through the world with confidence and give to your family with a zest and vitality some could only imagine.

Imagine if you started today? You get to choose.
