BUZ INVESTORRS ASX 200 Midday Watch Stocks in Australia and New Zealand closed higher on Thursday 22nd of June despite mounting global uncertaintie and subdued trading activity. The equity markets have been hit by a wave of volatility over past few sessions, especially the ASX 200, amid plummeting treasury yields, mirrored by the decade low yields on U.S. treasury notes. Australia’s ASX 200 gained 40.3 points, or 0.7 percent to 5706, led higher by finance and resource sectors. 4 stocks gained over 4 percent each while 2 stocks lost more than 4 percent each. The big four banks gained between 1.2 percent and 1.6 percent each. Meanwhile, the broader All Ordinaries added 39.1 points, or 0.7 percent, to 5742.3 and New Zealand’s NZX 50 advanced 36.6 points, or 0.5 percent to 7,563.7. Historically, the Australia S&P/ASX 200 Stock Market Index reached an all time high of 6828.70 in November of 2007 and a record low of 1358.50 in November of 1992.
