Pot Law Leads to Nevada Marijuana State of Emergency

Nevada Marijuana Hits a Snag

Nevada Marijuana State It’s only been just over a week since Nevada legalized recreational marijuana, and the state is already close to declaring a state of emergency.

FOREX INVESTORS BUZZ  Nevada Marijuana State It’s only been just over a week since Nevada legalized recreational marijuana, and the state is already close to declaring a state of emergency. No, this isn’t the result of “reefer madness”-inspired crime waves or the collapse of society as we know it since the legalization of marijuana. Instead what we have here is a very s uccessful weed roll-out in the state; so successful, in fact, that the laws are holding the Nevada marijuana economy back.

Let me explain.

There are 47 licensed retail marijuana stores, and they are quickly running out of stock. Marijuana, to no one’s surprise, is a hit. The drug has been selling fast ever since it became legal at the beginning of July.

Nevada Marijuana State

Marijuana Law

One of the solutions to the marijuana bind that Nevada currently finds itself in is a “statement of emergency” allowing state officials to consider adopting an emergency regulation that would help alleviate the shortage. This move was endorsed by Governor Brian Sandoval. (Source: “Nevada dispensaries running out of marijuana; governor steps in,” Reno Gazette-Journal, July 7, 2017.)

The move would relieve the pressure on the Nevada marijuana business. And that’s exactly what the state wants, as tax revenue has seen quite the uptick since the implementation of the marijuana laws (to no one’s surprise).

What this Means for Marijuana Stocks

This is important for marijuana stocks for a number of reasons, not the least of which is that the way marijuana laws are crafted and shaped will mean a lot for the future of the business. This is because more states are likely to adopt regulations on the drug and either follow in each other’s footsteps or at the very least try to avoid the same mistakes.

Consider also that, in spite of the legal hiccup that Nevada marijuana has currently run into, things are still looking very bright for the state. The Nevada Dispensary Association earlier this week estimated that dispensaries earned about $3.0 million in sales. As a result, the state profited about $1.0 million in tax revenue between July 1 and 4. That’s $1.0 million extra in tax revenue in three short days. Those types of numbers will go a long way towards convincing both voters and politicians alike that legalization is a viable option.Like up on FACEBOOK

US Marijuana Market Comes to Nevada, Is the Rest of the Union Next?

Can the U.S. Marijuana Market Continue to Expand?

US Marijuana Market  One of the hottest industries around just got a little bit hotter; Nevada has officially legalized recreational marijuana use in the state.

BUZ INVESTORS US Marijuana Market  One of the hottest industries around just got a little bit hotter; Nevada has officially legalized recreational marijuana use in the state. That means that the home of Sin City is about to offer even more pleasures that are taboo or outright illegal in many other states across the country. But what does the move mean for the U.S. marijuana market at large? A lot.

First, as is always the case, whenever a state legalizes marijuana, people are eagerly watching tax revenue. Whatever one’s thoughts are on weed, if enough people can be convinced that the benefits of legalization outweigh the negatives, the

According to the state, Nevada is expecting to bring in $60.0 million more in the next two years, with more money on the way as the industry continues to boom. (Source: “$60M in tax revenue projected as Nevada preps for recreational marijuana,” KSNV NBC, June 26, 2017.)

US Marijuana Market

That kind of cash certainly has the power to change minds in electorates across the U.S. At this point, Nevada is another drop in the slow trickle of states that are opting to have a regulated marijuana market instead of prohibiting the drug.

n obviously it would stand to reason that marijuana would see itself legalized sooner rather than later.

The Future of the Pot Stock

As it stands, there is good money to be made in the pot stock market. But realistically, the true gold rush—or should I say green rush?—will occur when the U.S. legalizes marijuana across the country.

While it’s great for countries like Canada to move forward with legalization, the pot stock big money obviously lies in bigger markets like the U.S. and the EU.

So what could motivate the U.S. government to push ahead down a path towards legalization? Well, first, we have to understand what motivates the current president, Donald Trump.

New Frontier Data, a business intelligence firm, estimates that as many as 250,000 new jobs could be created by legal weed by 2020. (Source: “Pot comes to Sin City: Recreational use is now law in Nevada as weed makes for strange bedfellows,” CNBC, July 1, 2017.)

If Trump is serious about bringing jobs to the U.S., then pot may serve as a convenient tool to enact his vision.

Also consider that one of the top Trump advisors, Roger Stone, is a huge proponent of legalized marijuana. The political operative has his own documentary about how influential he was on the president during the campaign, and as such, could be an important figure in the fight for country-wide legalization.

Casinos in Nevada ended the fiscal year with a gaming win of $887.41M for June, up 6.8% Y/Y.

The Las Vegas Strip rebounded from a tough month in May with a 10% gain in June, but fell just short of analysts’ expectations. An unusually high hold percentage for baccarat play helped pump up the monthly revenue tally. Strip revenue is still down YTD.

Total Nevada gaming win for the fiscal year ended June 30 was up 0.7% to $11.12B. Non-gaming revenue (not part of the monthly ‘win’) is an increasingly larger variable with casino earnings.

Earlier in the week, Wynn Resorts reported sluggish growth from Vegas operations, adjusted property EBITDA +0.2% Y/Y. Higher RevPAR helped to offset a lower occupancy rate. Shares of Wynn Resorts took a tumble after the company disclosed that the number of gaming tables it was allocated for Wynn Palace in Macau was only half of what was anticipated.

Investors will catch another penetrating look into Vegas trends when MGM Resorts (NYSE:MGM) reports Q2 earnings on August 4. The reporting period includes the 10% Strip revenue pop. Commentary from management on the impact of the new 20K-seat arena will also be key.
