Pence will not run Responding to rumors, Vice President Mike Pence reiterated his loyalty to Donald Trump and made it clear

Pence will not run Responding to rumors, Vice President Mike Pence reiterated his loyalty to Donald Trump and made it clear that he has no plans to run for President in the 2020 elections. He was reacting to an article published by the New York Times, which indicated that Pence may be gearing up to position himself as a potential Presidential candidate in the event Donald Trump does not want to extend his term and serve a second time. Going further, Pence has termed the article ‘offensive’ to him and his family and the entire team. He said that it was an attempt to ‘divide’ the Trump administration.

Pence will not run

Pence went on to underline the efforts that he and his team are keen on investing in the 2020 election to ensure that President Trump emerges victorious yet again. He said that they are still focused on getting Trump re-elected for his second term. Meanwhile, spokespersons for New York Times, the paper that carried the article, continue to hold that their reporting is accurate.

NYT reports ‘number of Republicans’ gearing up for elections

The New York Times article had actually hinted that it was not just Mike Pence who may be a Presidential contender come 2020. It said that a number of Republicans are considering whether or not they should take a shot at the White House, the reason being Trump’s eroding poll numbers. The fact that the current president also has many investigations being carried out, some, against his close associates and family members, is another reason why it appears unlikely that he will win a second term. In sharp contrast to Pence’s statements, the article pointedly said that Pence had talked to many people about his willingness to run for President if Trump chose not to try for a second term.

Meanwhile, there is no denying that Mike Pence is quite a prominent figure in the administration. His prominence and visibility have also been on the rise recently after his Great America Committee was set up. This is a political fund-raising outfit and Pence has hosted events that included key personalities. It could be this that led to assumptions that Pence is likely to launch his own campaign even if it means taking on his own President. With Pence stoutly denying the rumors and the NYT equally strongly supporting their report, it is impossible to say for certain what is likely to happen in 2020.
